In America, 50% of the population has high levels of cholesterol and are at a risk of cardiovascular disease or having a heart attack. Fortunately, with better eating and a sound diet these people can lower their cholesterol and, in turn, lower their risk for heart problems.

While most sufferers of high cholesterol are on pills to help fight the problem the easiest way is with diet. By reducing saturated fats in your daily caloric intake you can quickly lower your cholesterol levels. Another tip is to simply reduce the number of calories you consume in total each day. Eating more soluble fiber is another great way to trap cholesterol in your digestive tract and allow it to pass through your body.

A woman weighing 300 pounds decided to try a raw vegan diet after reading a book praising its benefits to your health. In two years, she managed to lose 160 pounds, or almost half her body weight, on the diet.

Interestingly enough, the woman had never previously been involved in dieting:

Two summers after she reached her heaviest weight, Stokes was working at a greenhouse in Iceland, when a friend lent her a copy of a book about the health benefits of eating raw foods. Stokes, who had never been interested in diets, says she was completely “absorbed” by the approach.

She has kept the weight off for four years and has begun writing books about the raw food style of living. Her biggest advice to people interested in the raw vegan diet is to try and reach out to find similarly interested dieters like yourself to make the process easier from a social perspective.

If you’ve decided it’s time to try to lose weight by taking diet pills then it is very, very important you do some strong research beforehand. There is a wide variety of pills available on the market and it can be a bit overwhelming. If you take a slow approach and try to learn as much as you can you’ll ensure that you pick the best pill for yourself. Otherwise, if you just rush in, you might find out the only thing you’ll lose won’t be some weight but money from your wallet instead.

The diet pill industry is a constantly evolving and changing one with new drugs and information being released on a daily basis. It’s key that you consult multiple sources for information including your doctor and respected and qualified online resources like Web MD.

Another great source of information on diet pills can come from users themselves. Find user reviews for any of the diet pills you’re thinking you might want to start taking. A lot of people will be very honest and up-front with you about whether or not the pill they tried was actually effective. This is a very good way to weed out the overhyped diet pill solutions from the ones that will actually help you lose weight.

A diet rich in cholesterol or saturated fat tends to raise blood cholesterol (LDL). A diet which is rich in carbohydrates, or excessive alcohol intake, may result in increased levels of VLDL (very low density lipoprotein).

For treating hypercholesterolemia, secondary causes need to be taken care of. Diabetes should be treated. In hypothyroidism, the cholesterol levels are automatically reduced when hypothyroidism is treated.

Patients with high cholesterol should be given a fat-modified diet. Thereafter, drug therapy may be started.
